Winter Mile
Published by
The week after Footlocker, Buchanan held a 1600m race on their new Mondo track for all their cross-country runners so that they could see how fast they could run a mile right now. I had 7 of my junior high kids race with them. The girls went first and my 7th grader, Hagen Reedy got second overall in 5:36 (she had run 5:26 a week after her season ended). All four of the other girls I had run got PRs by 15, 30, and 50 seconds respectively. It had bas been a great year for these girls and we should have a great team next year with some great 6th graders comming up and 4 of my top 5 from this year returning. The boys raced next and Clay Albertson wanted to run under 4:40. Last year he ran 4:44, but I didn't think we had been doing enough track work for him to go that fast. He ran a very even race only needed a 69 second last lap to go under 4:40. He went all out that last lap and finished in 4:39.6. He got 6th, behind Buchanan's (5th in California at State) top 5 runners. The other 2 boys that ran for me also had PRs. Our boys cross-country team next year will be a question mark again. I have some good runners comming back (3 of my top 7), but I don't think I will be getting much help from the 6th graders that will be comming in next year. It should be interesting. |
