When the league finals finally rolled around, I have to admit, I really wasn't very confident in either of my team's chances of defeating teams that had dominated them all year.  In the last week, key injuries to 3 of my top 5 girls and 1 of my top boys had me worried.  I had still hoped to be top 2, though.

The boys team ran a great race and my entire varsity team ran PR's, but our league is so strong that we ended up in 3rd, and not close to second either.  The boys ran a great race, though, and I had 4 in the top 15.

The girls race was the most amazing, gut wrenching, exciting race I have ever been witness to.  My normal 5th runner had been nursing a sore achilles tendon and wasn't having a great race, luckily I had another new 7th grader (Chloe Quesada) step up and PR by 45 seconds to be our 5th runner.  My 3rd runner (Myleigh Bricks) started off in the top 6 then fell all the way back to 15th in the middle of the race, but finished strong in an inspired effort to get 9th.  To top it all off, my front runner (Hagen Reedy) tore up the Woodward Park course in the best time ever run by a 7th grader there to win by 10 seconds.  Even with all these amazing events, I found out the score was tied after 5 runners and we had won of the 6th person tie breaker.  I was extremely excited and the girls were too.  That is definitly the most emotional I have ever been about a race.
