Track Season So Far

We are almost done with our track season here at Alta Sierra Middle School in Clovis, CA.  Our league Championship meet is next Wednesday, April 30th.  After that, my number one girl distance runner, Hagen Reedy, will be competing in some local Saturday meets until the middle of May.

The season has gone great so far for my distance runners.  While I don't have the depth that I have had in the past, my up front talent is still top notch and improving every meet.

My number one boy, Tyler Haroldson, had Pr's of 2:29-800m, 5:22-1600m, and 11:19-3200m last year as a 7th grader.  He has since improved his 1600 to 4:58 (only good for 4th best in our league).  He has also improved his 800 to 2:20 and 3200 to 11:14, but has not been able to race fresh in either of those events yet.  He will get a shot at lowering his pr in 800 today when he runs it fresh in our race.  He has done a great job to improve to 4:58 in the 1600, but I think he has more in him, maybe a 4:55 or so next week.  He will also be running the 3200 next week and should be under 11:00.

Hagen Reedy has had a great track season so far as well.  She is not blessed with much foot speed, but has been able to run 2:31 in the 800 without ever running it fresh.  She will be looking to lower her 3200 pr of 11:54 today when she runs it fresh in our meet.  In the 1600 she has run 5:24, but her competition is always very tough.  She will not be running the 800 in our league meet next week which, by the way, will be won by a 7th grader from a neighboring school who runs 2:24.  She will compete in the 1600 and 3200, however, and while I expect her to be able to win the 3200 somewhat easily, the 1600 will be the best event of the day.  There are 4 girls, including Hagen, (all 7th graders) in our league (one city) that have pr's of 5:24, 5:26, 5:29, and 5:30.  It will be a great race to watch and while Hagen is the favorite on paper, I feel she will have to run around 5:20 to win.  While we haven't decided on race tactics yet, I think she will have to run the kicks out of all of them to win.

Tune in next week after our League meet to hear what happens!
